You'll undoubtedly have seen Het Binnenhof (Inner Court) in news reports. Be at the heart of politics during a guided tour of the Ridderzaal and the Eerste en Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal. Another famous landmark is Het Torentje in de Hofvijver, the official office of the Dutch Prime Minister. Near the Hofvijver is the de Gevangenpoort-museum. Two iconic buildings in The Hague are the Paleis Noordeinde and Het Vredespaleis. Paleis Noordeinde is the King's place of work and is not open to the public. You will be able to walk around the palace and take a stroll through the garden. The Vredespaleis might just be the most photographed building in The Hague. This building houses the International Court of Justice. You can enter the visitors centre of the Peace Palace free of charge. Here you will learn more about the structure and about the organisations within. Visit the World Peace Flame monument and the Wereldvredespad, a ring of 196 stones and rocks surrounding the landmark representing 196 countries worldwide.

The two main churches in the city are the gothic Grote Kerk dating back to the 15 th century and the Nieuwe Kerk, built in the 17 th century when the Grote Kerk became too small. The Nieuwe Kerk was built in the Dutch classical-baroque style.

Visitng the Mauritshuis is a must. Even if it was just to marvel at the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer. With its collection of over 800 works of art, it's no surprise that this is one of The Hague's most popular attractions. At the former municipal museum, now called the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, over 160,000 works of art are on show. The collection includes works by Picasso and Mondrian. Travelling to the Hofstad with children? Visit the Escher in Het Paleis, a permanent exhibition in the former winter palace of Queen Emma of the Netherlands. Young and old will marvel at the optical illusion paintings by M.C. Escher.

The city is filled with historical heritage. At Scheveningen and Kijkduin, you can spend a lovely day out at the beach. Hotel Novotel Den Haag World Forum is near the city centre and the beach at Scheveningen. Scheveningen pier is a vibrant place with a Ferris wheel, a zipline and many cafés. Pick up some souvenirs on the Scheveningen boulevard. Sea Life is an excellent attraction for children and is close to Hotel ibis Styles Den Haag Scheveningen. The location is also ideal if you plan to visit the casino in Scheveningen or catch a show at the Circustheater. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the fishermen and take a boat tour at the port of Scheveningen.

Don't miss out on a chance to visit the Haagse Markt during your stay in The Hague. The biggest outdoor market in the Netherlands is the size of three football fields! It's packed with stands selling local produce, clothes, antiques and flowers. The Haagse Markt has become a household name in The Hague due to its mishmash of cultures and vibrant atmosphere. The Hofkwartier is also a popular shopping place, with charming boutiques and shops selling vintage clothing and antiques. De Haagse Passage is the oldest remaining shopping centre in the Netherlands and one of Europe's most beautiful shopping arcades.

The city's restaurants are some of the best places to experience the city's atmosphere. Dine among locals and discover various traditional and modern dishes you won't find anywhere else. Haley's Comet Breakfast Club at the Piet Heinstraat will transport you back to the eighties. This welcoming restaurant even has its own signature coffee blend. The interior of the Secret Garden Bakery in the Kettingstraat does credit to its name. Apart from coffee, tea and superfoods, you can also buy delicious cakes and cupcakes here. Enjoy fresh and healthy dishes at Club Vers near Den Haag Holland Spoor train station. As a bonus, they've extended their breakfast hours to the afternoon, perfect for late sleepers. Grab a table at Walter Benedict on the Denneweg. Naturally, their main dish is Eggs Benedict. They also offer fluffy American pancakes and many other great good breakfast dishes. How about having your breakfast with a sea view? Many seaside restaurants in The Hague have a wide variety on their breakfast menu. The Habana Beach in Kijkduin for example, and Hart Beach in Scheveningen. The latter even provides surfing lessons after your breakfast.

Eat brunch all day at Ted's on the Frederikstraat. For pretty surroundings, why not eat at the Pistache Cafe at the Paleistuin? The menu includes filled paninis and crisp salads. Enjoy an organic lunch or breakfast at Haver on the Reinkenstraat, or order a freshly-ground coffee with a slice of homemade cake. Imagine yourself in Paris at the Café de Florez on the Annastraat.
